This week, we’ll explore insights on Self-Care, Leading with Love, and Intentional Relationships
While co-MCing the Leadership + Humanity Symposium in Hobart last week, I reflected on the essence of leadership and life itself. This sparked fresh insights into the powerful connection between self-care, leading with love, and building intentional relationships.
When we care for ourselves, we lead with heart, and the relationships we cultivate become more meaningful and rooted in purpose.
Here are 3 ideas from me, 2 quotes from others, and 1 question to ponder this week.

🚀3 Ideas From Me
I. Self-care is Not Selfish
Self-care wasn’t something I embraced naturally. As a Type ‘A’ personality and a medical practitioner, I was always focused on pursuing goals, furthering my career, and pouring myself into the care of my patients.
But over time, I’ve realized that self-care is not an act of indulgence or selfishness—it’s an act of self-preservation. It’s essential.
As the ancient Chinese saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” This wisdom is profoundly relevant today.
If we don’t take time to rest and replenish, burnout becomes inevitable—and in that state, we can no longer be the influential leaders or caregivers we aspire to be.
To lead others effectively—whether in your family, community, or workplace—you need to be at your best, both mentally and physically.
Here are some simple ways to make self-care part of your routine:
- Set aside time for quiet reflection and medication each day
- Incorporate movement, whether walking, yoga, or exercise
- Undertake regular leisure activities.
- Surround yourself with people that uplift and energize you. Stay away from energy vampires.
II. Lead with Love, Not Control
Leadership is often misunderstood as wielding power or authority. However, authentic leadership is about love.
Leading with empathy, kindness, and vulnerability creates spaces where people feel seen, valued, and empowered. This type of leadership fosters trust and resilience, whether in the workplace or at home.
When people feel loved and supported, they perform at their best and reach their full potential. Love, not fear, creates the environment where individuals thrive.
III. Intentional Relationships: Choose Connection, Not Convenience
We live in an era where technology makes it easier than ever to stay in touch, but a meaningful connection is more profound than a quick text or a social media ‘like.’
Building solid relationships with family, friends, or colleagues requires intentional effort grounded in trust and respect.
Relationships flourish when we choose connection over convenience. Being physically present is not just about being physically present but also emotionally present.
This week, I challenge you to:
- Set aside time to connect with loved ones deeply
- Be emotionally present during interactions
- Offer genuine support to a colleague or friend
🚀 2 Quotes from Others
“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.” — Katie Reed (author and motivational speaker.)
“Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.” — Simon Sinek.
