3 Ideas from me
I. Improving Marriage Communication
In my early years of marriage, I struggled to understand the differences in how men and women communicate. Women often enjoy sharing detailed stories and banter. Most men are poor listeners and keen to get straight to the point. When I asked my wife about her work day, I had to be prepared for a detailed narrative. In contrast, my response was usually, “My day was fine.”
Here are some tips for improving communication in your marriage:
- Listen Attentively: Understand that your spouse values your full attention.
- Avoid Interrupting: Resist the urge to offer quick fixes or solutions.
- Be Present: Show genuine interest in what your partner is saying.
Effective communication is the cornerstone of a happy and lasting relationship. It acts as the glue that holds a couple together. It fosters understanding, trust, and emotional intimacy.

II. Boosting Confidence
Growing up, I was shy and often found it hard to speak up or accept criticism in public. Over time, I learned that confidence isn’t a personality trait—it’s a skill that can be developed.
Here’s how to boost your confidence:
- Dress for Success: Constantly groom yourself and always dress well. People form first impressions and opinions about us, rightly or wrongly, by how we look on the outside. Your appearance also affects how you feel. Choose quality over quantity when buying your clothes.
- Engage in Public Settings: When at meetings, sit closer to the front; speak up if you have something to contribute.
- Practice Positive Self-Talk: Positive self-talk can boost your confidence. Use affirmations like, “I can get through this” and “I am equal to the task.”
Remember, confidence can be built with practice and perseverance.

III. Enhancing Leadership Skills
We often underestimate our intelligence and overestimate others. Developing leadership skills can help overcome that.
- Avoid Comparisons with Others: Only compare yourself today to your past self to measure growth.
- Build Competence: Be the best of what you do. As the saying goes, “Learn more to earn more.”
- Expand Your Vocabulary: According to USA research, a strong vocabulary in Year 12 students correlates with college graduation and future earning potential. Speak with an empathetic mood, a cheerful demeanour, and passionate delivery.
